Degree Time Limits

Time Limit for M.S. degrees

The M.S. degree may be pursued on a full-time or part-time basis. However, students must complete all the requirements for the M.S. degree withinÌýsix (6) years from the initial date of registration as a graduate student in the Department.

Time Limit for Ph.D. degrees

Doctoral candidacy automatically terminatesÌýfive (5)Ìýyears after admission to candidacy. All requirements for the doctoral degree must be completed withÌýseven (7)Ìýyears of admission to the Ph.D. program (registration for first doctoral level class). To continue beyond the time limit, a written request for extension to the research advisor and the Dean of the College of Engineering must be submitted and approved.
