Placement Testing

All placement tests are administered online in Blackboard and do not require an appointment or in-person proctoring. To request a placement test, please fill out the request form below.

Placement tests are only available to admitted Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ students and not to be confused with entrance exams. These tests measure aptitude to determine what course level you should enroll for a successful learning experience. Students are permitted one attempt at any Blackboard placement test in a calendar year.

After completion of your test(s), check with your academic advisor for placement and registration information. Most test scores are posted to your student record within 24-48 hours of completion, with the exception of ESL Writing, Japanese, and Arabic, as these are manually graded by the academic departments. You can also check your records in your Student Profile in the .Ìý

ESL Writing Placement Test ()

The ESL Placement Test determines your course registration for English composition at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ and is not to be confused with the English language proficiency test required for international admission.

NOTE: This online test is graded by the English department and as such, may experience delays in score entry. are available in summer but will not be graded until the week before fall semester start.

College Algebra or Trigonometry

The Department of Mathematics strongly recommends completing the ALEKS math placement for a more accurate assessment with remediation options for a higher placement score. While there is a small fee for this, it does provide remediation and multiple attempts, whereas the free departmental version only allows one attempt in a calendar year.

To request access to the free online math placement test(s) offered through Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Testing Services, please complete the request form below.

ALEKS placement tests offered through academic departments

  • Mathematics Placement Test (required for any math course placement)
  • Chemistry Placement Test (required for placement into CHEM 1230: Gen Chem I or CHEM 1120: Chemistry for Health Sciences)
  • ALEKS Placement Tests are administered online and require login with your UTAD credentials to access.Ìý
  • These are not administered through Testing Services and are offered directly through the Math and Chemistry departments.

ACCUPLACER TESTING 

Accuplacer is administered online through the College Credit Plus Program (CCP) for high school students enrolled in dual credit programs at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ. Please contact them directly at ccpadmission@utoledo.edu or 419.530.4200 for more information about scheduling a test, scores, and other questions.
